Digital Diaspora Family Reunion (DDFR) was introduced to international audiences this week with the premiere webcast on the Voice of America (VOA) world news service. “In Focus” is VOA’s 30-minute daily news magazine that brings information about Africa and the Diaspora to viewers across Africa, the United States and throughout the world. VOA Senior TV Producer, Carolyn Turner, profiles Thomas Allen Harris and the DDFR Roadshow which will have it’s Website launch in July 2010.
Thomas Allen Harris’ second feature film, “E Minha Cara / That’s My Face” (2003) is featured within the Voice Of America (VOA) News program “InFocus.“ The theme of this episode of the internationally distributed news magazine is ‘Children of the African Diaspora.‘ VOA has been the official external radio, television, and online broadcasting service of the United States federal government since 1942.
Writer and filmmaker Eric Stange profiles Thomas Allen Harris’ innovative photography inspired community engagement initiative, Digital Diaspora Family Reunion. American Heritage is a monthly magazine dedicated to covering the history of the United States since 1954.
The International Documentary Association publishes one of the most respected filmmaking periodicals – Documentary Magazine. The IDA was founded in 1982 as a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to supporting the efforts of nonfiction film and video makers throughout the United States and the world.
The Washington Informer is a weekly newspaper that has served African American communities within the national capital region since 1964. Contributing writer Edith Billups spent time with filmmaker Thomas Allen Harris while he presented the the Digital Diaspora Family Reunion Roadshow at the 2009 SilverDocs Documentary Film Festival.
